How do we do an AKA on types
I was about to create a new type called video games... but it looks like this type covers it equally well.
Can we create an AKA so this comes up when I type video games?
This is a feature that isn't yet supported, but that we are planning to add - hopefully in the next month or so.
Release date
is different for different countries/continents.
For musical albums, we have a convention of just using the first release date, but there are other Web sites for tracking the utter minutiæ of records. This is really a question, then, of how much the user community wants to see and maintain a list of national releases or whether there’s more interest in seeing when a game first hit the streets anywhere. (And in the Internet age, do the national boundaries really matter all that much?)
indeed, I was just this second wondering the same thing.
Maybe even just a release year is better than having nothing at all.
The suggest of "vtawar" is good idea because release date is very different.
Exemple:
Mario striker charge
US: July 30, 2007
Japan: December 31, 2007
Europe: May 25, 2007
And different platform, release date is not all time the same date.
Exemple ;
Resident evil 4
Wii verison :
US: June 19, 2007
Japan: May 31, 2007
Europe: August 29, 2007
Play station:
US: October 25, 2005
Japan: December 31, 2005
Expansions
There should be an "Expansions" property on and a "Computer Game Expansion" type for expansions packs, which aren't usually standalone games.
I seem to be unable to suggest properties for the type.
I've created the type and typed a couple of expansions (BG2:Throne of Bhaal and BG:Tales of the Sword Coast). It'd be nice if there was a link back to the expansion from the original game (still can't figure out why I can't suggest a property)
Setting
How about a setting property :) ? This would be important for a lot of RPG's and Action-adventure games.
You can get a setting property by adding the type "work of fiction" to the video game in question.
Cool, thanks. I'd completely forgotten about my own suggestion and now that I'm an admin, I can actually do this :)
Oops, I actually misunderstood what you said (rather, I read what I expected you to say). That's even better, thanks!
Actually, would "Work of fiction" (which probably all games are) even apply to something non-fictional?
Designer/developer distinction for 8-bit games
Games from the 8-bit era were often written by just one or two people, with no real distinction between "designer" and "developer". How should we people suggest we use the "developer" and "designer" fields in this case?
I think it would make sense to fill in both fields with the developer/designers:

Computer Game Engine
It could be interesting to add "Engine Used" property to note which game engine a specific game is based on. This would also allow to see e. g. all games which use id Tech 4 or so.
Splendid idea. I just added the property and mirrored your two types.
Thank you! :)
My Son's suggestion
Can we add a "Rating" and "Rating Source" as new list-type property. My son's always want to know what a game was rated by game informer, gamespot, etc.
There is a property called "Online reviews" that can link to external reviews. Also, there has been a movement in the data-modeling community to model external reviews as part of a new type called "Consumer product". Perhaps you've seen the thread? If not, you can join the email discussion here. Feedback on the modeling of the consumer product type is welcome!
