The only reason there isn’t is that no one has been interested enough to make it. So go do it! Make a private domain of your own and start modeilng it. Post here and invite others to join in. When you think it’s done, ask for it to be promoted into the data commons.

You may find the data modeling mailing list helpful both in your modeing efforts and in recruiting others to help.

How about inputting the colors as "<brand><color>", or if that doesn't disambiguate multiple colors from the same company enough, "<brand><model><color>"?

For example, the FCR2 model of Giant Fitness/FCR series comes in two colors: Brushed Silver and Brushed Purple. If every Giant bike of Brushed Silver is of the same color, I would name the color topic "Giant Brushed Silver" in Freebase.

Also, you really need a "Bicycle Paint Color" type that would have, in addition to the color name, the manufacturer color code, models the color is available in, etc. You may want to take a look at spatialed's Motorcycle Paint Color type.

WOXY is a radio station that used to broadcast terrestrially but is strictly internet-only now..so it's typed as a Radio station, and as such it has properties like "Frequency" and "Serves Area", that i guess historically make sense..but not anymore.

It does seem silly that some short stories have "short story" as a genre. Feel free to delete those assertions. Poems have genres, but those are pretty much already handled by the "verse form" propety. Plays have their own genre type. What other types of written works do you think have genres (that aren't already covered by an existing type)?

I'm curious why "Genre" is not a property of the type "Written Work" but exists separately under both "Book" and "Short Story" (though not "Poem").

It seems silly that some short stories have the genre of "Short Story", which would make more sense if tagged on the more generic "Written Work" instead.

What are you trying to do? The Redirect type (/freebase/redirect), like most types in the Freebase domain, is a special type, used in the UI, and its instances shouldn't be editable by most users. But there are only four instances of the type, and I assume that you're not trying to edit the home page, so I'm probably missing something.

Subtitles would be covered by copyright protection, so you would only be allowed to add them from films from the public domain or with an open license (such as CC-BY).

Copyright law, however, does allow small fragments from copyrighted works to be cited. I don't know what the limits are, but I imagine that many short subtitle snippets would be allowed per movie, perhaps from key scenes.

Also, aside from the contents of the subtitles themselves, what kind of metadata would you imagine having for subtitles? Freebase could store that information without restrictions.

Our goal is to provide linkages between sets of data, not really to be a repository for data in of itself...

Thus we provide an excerpt of the associated wikipedia article as a blurb (but not recreate the entire article, that's what the linkages (and keys) back to Wikipedia are for. We allow for weblinks to sites that have specific and useful information about the topic but is of a restrictive licensed nature (IMDb for example).

Our database is not set up for large amounts of text. We encourage the use of text for specific notation about a specific property but not for than about almost a thousand characters.

Secondly, legality.

Your subtitles are a form of film script and would most likely be considered as property of the creators/owner of the film. At best they would be a grey area of legality to be made available in text form outside of the film, video tape or disc.

If it was a film you wrote and owned outright, and was published with an CC license, the providing the subtitles externally from the film would most likely be legal in that case ;)

What you could do is create your own type in your own private domain (default one or a more specifically named 'Film Subtitles' domain). The type could designed to contain what subtitles in what editions of the film (Theatrical Release/DVD/TV Broadcast) in what languages...Check out how the Film Regional Release Date is designed, though it may need not be a Compound Value Type.

Hi all,

I have been using Freebase for a little while now to index my movie collection (where film information exist in Freebase) and, eventually, upload film information back to Freebase. I have subtitles for the majority of my films and think they would make a valuable addition to the Freebase Film schema (imagine querying for who said a particular line and in which films).

How would I go about adding a Subtitles schema to Freebase and linking it to the Films/TV schema?

Alternatively, if this schema already exists, could somebody point me at it? I searched but couldn't find it.

There is no existing type for Performance as a character in a radio broadcast as of yet.

Radio (at this time) is a very rudimentary domain that holds great promise for those wishing to model from its existing skeletal structure. There are great examples in the current TV and Film domains to use as inpiration or templates for new types to capture episodes, performances, characters, personal appearances etc.

You can always consider drafting up your own Radio Performance, Radio Performer, Radio Episode, Radio Show/Series, etc.

I understand your point, and from a certain perspective, it would be the most accurate way to model fictional things. We actually had modeled fictional settings this way, for the same arguments (e.g., the London of the Sherlock Holmes stories is not the same London as in the film "About a Boy", even though they're both fairly realistic portrayals of the actual city, which is again not the same thing). But it turned out to be extremely cumbersome for users, and hard for many people, even experienced data-modelers, to really understand. So everyone pretty much just used the actual locations for the fictional settings. I worry that the same thing would happen with employers and education. It would also result in an extremely large number of instances of Cambridge, Oxford, Harvard, and Yale, each pertaining to a single universe.

e.g. James Bond works for MI6. MI6, as a fictional employer in the James Bond universe, should be a seperate topic from the real-life MI6. If the two were together it wouldn't be clean and could be very confusing.

Yes, I know I can specify the occupation there. But this doesn't completely answer my idea.

1. It would be nice to have the occupation on the moviesite too, next to the characters name as sometimes this is needed for knowing who this character is. Like finding out that Star X played the doc in the movie as "Mr Y" might not help you that easy.

2.t would be useful to view any titles of the person in a seperat column. Else the Characters ar created as "Dr. Jed Hill" instead of "Jed Hill" with "Dr." in another viewed column.

I wouldn't add them myself. We do include deleted scene performances in films but do not attempt to capture in Freebase performances planned but never written/performed/filmed, that's datum that is just too nebulous and conceptual. I would consider including characters and concepts that were in a published work that were edited out in subsequent editions.

If you really feel it is important to capture this, you could create a new type for Unrealized Fictional Character and have as an enumerated property the status: edited out/never written/occurs in work destroyed/unsubstantiated claim...
