The article on this person at Wikipedia states that he was born WHG III but changed his name to WHG, Jr. to avoid the appearance of elitism. Apparently Bill Gates then kept the new numbering and became another WHG III.

He's listed here as William Gates Sr, and in parenthesis William H. Gates III. Well I thought Bill Gates was the third which would make him the second? Either way it goes there is confusion about who is II and who is the III.
