jcrosse, thanks for you interest. I maintain this app, now. I also uploaded all the Neutra houses into freebase (including dates and location information). If I understand what you are saying: the Kaufmann house is referenced in many books, magazines, newspapers, etc. and we could store this reference information in freebase as well. Right? I think that would be great.

The simple approach would be to have a flat document that's "attached" to the "topic" (in this case the Kaufman House) which just contains a list of references. As you said, it would be great to have that document "pop-up" when the user clicks on something in Archiportal.

A more sophisticated approach would be to have each reference be a structured item within freebase:

published work
page #
topic referenced

This would be more powerful in that one could perform a sophisticated database query like "show me all references to austrian architects from the New York Times" but it would be a lot more work, for sure.

I am an amateur architectural historian and find this site fascinating. I have created project databases and bibliographies for various architects and was wondering if this application could be used to link project specific material. As an example, Neutra was widely published and the Kaufmann House has over 400 items in its bibliography. Could a simple click on the Kaufmann or any other Neutra house automatically link up to its individual bibliography. This would be of great interest for researchers, historians, real estate sales people, and home owners. I envision eventually combining this with Zillow and architectural databases, bibliographies, building and safety records, and county assessors databases into something that could give you the complete history on any building in the country that you could access on your I-phone or car GPS while you are driving down the street. How do we make this happen? Are Zillowand/or Google already working on this?

You can simply keep adding more queries to your URL up to the limit of the URL string length. Technically...the URL definition does not require a length limit but most servers have a limit around 256-500 chars typically.

At the very least you can reduce network latency by using the queries parameter to execute multiple queries per http request. See the examples on the mqlread page.

I guess I vote for this, too. Although I dont see why it would need to be an "official" gateway, since there is the API.

I am about to start on a project where I will be using many different sources of data, and incorporating them all would basically amount to making them all RDF. Although, most of it already is (dbpedia, YAGO, wordnet)

I'd like to add a property for the "official" URL to either view (if web app), download or launch (i.e., Java WebStart) a Freebase Application. Currently, people are just using the Web Links property, but that doesn't differentiate it from other random links about the application.

It seems like this should be a property on the Software type since it's conceptually common to all applications (although I suppose you could name it more literally if there were separate Web Application, Installed Software, etc. co-types).

So does it make sense to add this to Software? What should it be called... "Application URL".... "Run"?

Freebase to RDF proxy: Interlinking Freebase and DBpedia

Hi,

I think it would be great to interlink Freebase and DBpedia with RDF Links. This would be beneficial for both sides: DBpedia users could navigate from DBpedia data into Freebase using a Semantic Web browser. Freebase could use data from DBpedia for topics where they do not have too much data yet.

Interlinking both datasets would require the following steps:

1. Implement a Linked Data wrapper around the Freebase API (meaning that Freebase topics get HTTP URIs that dereference to RDF).
2. Run a record linkage algorithm over both datasets to identify the instances that talk about the same things (easy, as large parts of both datasets are extracted from Wikipedia).
3. Add the resulting RDF links to DBpedia (and maybe also to Freebase).

It would really be great if Freebase would provide such a wrapper. If they do, the DBpedia team would take care of the interlinking part.
