Part of this suggestion was that "Board members" and other structured classes of membership should be co-typed as "Member". For example, Organization_board_member is linked as a property of Organization but is not linked to "Member" in any way. Aren't board members always members?&lt;/p&gt;</content>

There could be a "class" property that links to an instance of a "membership class" instance, for which we would have to create this new type.  Comments?&lt;/p&gt;</content>

    <content type="html">&lt;p&gt;Remember that Freebase included types aren’t a strict subtyping mechanism; you can always remove a type from an instance. So a programming meet could be typed as an Organization, and then Employer can be removed.&lt;br /&gt;
It was felt (by whoever did this—I’m not sure who) that *most* organizations likely to be in Freebase are also employers. If you disagree, it would be interesting to see how many organizations that you think are noteworthy enough to belong here are not employers. Maybe a random sample. Can you post some numbers?&lt;/p&gt;</content>

This can be done, of course, but has some implications (i.e., it requires a data migration and will break any queries using these properties).     <content type="html">&lt;p&gt;It seems that organizations often have related topics which is slightly different than child types that descend from organizations.  This came to mind as as was entering "Stevens and Permanente Creeks Watershed Council."  I'd like to link the topic to the topics Stevens Creek and Permanente Creek.  If there was a topic "US Highway system" one could imagine being a topic listed at  "American Automobile Association," chess for a chess club, and so on. The distinction between child type would be that the watershed council is an environmental organization, chess club a club type....
It's an idea that could use more thought.
