Spaceflight needs some refactoring in light of what we have learned about data modeling since this early experiment. In hope of getting some help on this, I would like to ask spatialed to join as an admin and help fix satellite as discussed.

I forgot to mention that Earth observing satellite should then be a co-typed with Man-made satellite (co-typed with satellite and spacecraft) and Sensor vehicle.

I'm not sure where Satellite mission fits into all of this. Perhaps it stays as it is - an independent tag to group Man-made satellites of the same mission.

A man-made satellite would include properties of both a Spacecraft type and a Satellite type. So, Satellite should probably be renamed Man-made satellite (or something equivalent) and keep all properties but those that refer to orbit.

Satellite should have the orbit properties of my Earth orbiting satellite type, which are a little more comprehensive and less redundant than Satellite's two orbit properties (mine were modeled using data presented on a NASA page).Satellite could therefore be used to describe anything that orbits another thing.

The two "Operational life" and "Operational" properties of my Earth orbiting satellite type should be moved to Spacecraft.

The sensor property of Earth observing satellite should probably be moved to a more generic type that connotes a sensor vehicle, regardless of its location.

How does this sound?

That makes sense to me, but if satellites include natural ones it might also be better to have properties like manufacturer and an launch date on spacecraft, instead of satellite. That way Artificial Satellites could be co-typed as both.

Or, if Satellite really means man-made satellite, then spacecraft should probably be an included type.

I would say that a man-made satellite is a spacecraft. Most definitions I see refer to a man-made vehicle operating beyond the Earth's atmosphere. There are probably properties of all spacecraft that apply to man-made satellites. Here is the satellite schema I've been using: http://www.freebase.com/view/schema/spaceflight/satellite

Most of its properties (except orbit) probably apply to any spacecraft.

Too many of engines currently in database where not operational, the exhibit I build really drew this point home. I'll do the change if no one objects in next 24 hours or has better idea.

This looks like a bug; it seems to only be happening with some of those "0" values, though. For now, editing seems to work if you use the "experimental" view (scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, right above the copyright notice, and click "experimental").

Ok. I entered some data on obscure fluorine-ammonia ancient engines and more. There is more historic Soviet stuff I'd like to enter, including nuclear, ion, hall thruster engines but may be a bit later.

We have rocket_engine_oxidizer and rocket_engine_fuel. Do we still need rocket_fuel type which is used for both fuels and oxidizers?

If I am administrator now, should I be able to delete a topic that I created by mistake?

started from - location of launch site (on earth) but can also be from space, in the future)
astronauts who took part in it
manned space vehicle that were used (could be more then - shuttle, but also a car to drive on the moon)
additonal unmanned vehicles (like the service module of the missions 2 the moon, or the rocket itself - saturn 5)
destination(s) - can be the ISS, but can also be the moon - but what if have more then one location - space probes that visit multiple destination. and what if this probe didn't land - just took pictures from a far.

distance traveled - i think that could be useful

and what about a distinction between man and unmanned missions?

thats my 2 cents.
