Most of the editing operations in Freebase are accessible through the edit icon that appears beside each item. Here you can add or remove items from a list, edit the value of a property or reorder a list. To access edit, simply click on the button and select from the options provided.
Depending on the property you're editing you may have one or more columns of data you can input here. Each column will typically have three controls on the left.
- a dragable handle for manually reordering items in the list
- a 'move to top' button to move the current item to the top of the list
- a delete button marked with an X that removes the current row completely.
- sortable column headings for quickly reordering the whole list
- ? icon providing help text for filling in the properties
- you can remove values by simply selecting the value and hitting your delete or backspace key
- save: which commits all your edits
- cancel: which cancels all your edits
'n' empty fields: the number of empty fields listed under each type on a topic is displayed and can be clicked on to see those empty properties if they are not being displayed for that type. Clicking again will hide those properties again.
Import list: many properties have a menu icon next to the edit button. The first additional feature available here is 'Import List' which allows you to enter a list of items in via cut and paste from another source. This is useful when you have a long list of things to add to a property. Clicking Import list will open a text area box in which you can paste your list. You'll then be guided through the steps to reconcile that list with existing topics in Freebase before completing the process.
