A Musical Album refers to a collection of Musical Tracks (recordings of Songs) released in a common format such as Compact Disc or LP. An album is typically associated with a single Musical Artist unless it is a compilation, which is a collection of tracks by various artists. (These albums will not have a value for the Artist property at all.)
This type is distinct from Musical Release which represents the various “pressings” or releases of an album. Musical Album is the more general type, however, in some cases there is only one release of an album—in which case a topic may be typed both Musical Album and Musical Release, or only as a Musical Album.
Please do not use this type for spoken word recordings, including stand-up comedy and audiobooks.
Properties
- Artist: expects Musical Artist; the artist primarily responsible for this album. There should be no “various artists” pseudo-artist in Freebase; multi-artist compilations should simply have no value for this property.
- Release Date: expects Date/Time; the first release of this album. If it was released on different dates in different countries, this should be the first such date.
- Genre: expects Musical genre; the genre or genres with which this album is associated. This is subjective; please do not delete a genre with which you disagree, but discuss the album instead.
- Release Type: expects Musical Album Type; one of a short list of types of album releases, such as single, EP, album, live album, or compilation.
- Running Time: expects Floating Point Number; this is the length of the album in seconds. This is a consistent and standardized way of comparing lengths of albums; soon, we hope to make it a little easier to work with.
- Label: expects Record label; the label which released this album.
- Tracks: expects Musical Track; the tracks on the album, preferably in order.
- Producer: expects Record Producer; who produced this album.
- Engineer: expects Person; the recording engineer or engineers for this album.
- Buy or download Web page: expects Webpage; a Web page where one can buy or download the contents of this album. This should not be a site with only samples and no option to buy, or with only some tracks from this album (which should be associated with the individual tracks), nor should it be a page about the album (which belongs in the more general Web page property).
- Releases: expects Musical Release; other releases of the same album. This may include remastered, extended, bowdlerized, or variant international releases of the album.
Hidden Properties
- Contributions: expects Musical Contribution; performances on the album other than those by the primary credited artist. See Musical Artist and Musical Contribution for more information.
- Previous Release: expects Musical Album; the prior album by this artist.
- Next Release: expects Musical Album; the following album by this artist.
