Amelia County is a county located in the U.S. state officially, "Commonwealth" of Virginia. As of the 2000 census, the population was 11,400. Its county seat is Amelia Courthouse. Amelia County was established in 1735 from parts of Prince George and Brunswick counties. The County is named for Princess Amelia Sophia of Great Britain, daughter of King George II.
