Cumulus Media, Inc. (also known as Cumulus Broadcasting) is a large owner of radio station in markets in the United States. Founded 1997 in Milwaukee, WI and now based in Atlanta, Georgia, the company is in a distant second place in the country behind Clear Channel Communications, in terms of number of stations owned. The major shareholders of the company belong to the Dickey family.
Cumulus had 307 stations in 61 markets as of December 31, 2005. Another 35 stations were operated through local marketing agreement as of March 1, 2004.
The company's biggest purchase would come in October 2005 with their purchase of Susquehanna Radio, giving Cumulus sizable groups in large markets for the first time in its existence.
In its 30 September 2007 report, Cumulus Media Inc. claimed to be the second-largest radio company in the United States based on station count with Cumulus and its partners in Cumulus Media Partners, owning and/or operating 344 radio stations in 67 U.S. media markets....
