Figueres (Spanish: Figueras) is the capital of the comarca (district) of Alt Empordà, in the province of Girona, Catalonia, Spain. The town was the birthplace of artist Salvador Dalí, and houses the Teatre-Museu Gala Salvador Dalí, a large museum designed by Dalí himself which attracts many visitors. It was also the birthplace of Narcís Monturiol i Estarriol, inventor of the first combustion powered submarine and anaerobic engine. The city is twinned with Perpignan (Pyrénées Orientales), just over the Pyrenees in France. full article at wikipedia
