Gérard Xavier Marcel Depardieu, CQ (born 27 December 1948, ) is an Academy Award-nominated and Golden Globe-winning French actor. One of France's most prominent actors, his most significant English-language productions include Green Card with Andie MacDowell and 1492: Conquest of Paradise. Depardieu was born in Châteauroux, Indre, the son of Anne Jeanne Josèphe "Éliette" (née Marillier) and René Maxime Lionel Depardieu, who was a metal worker. He first married Élisabeth (née Guignot), with whom he had two children. Guillaume and Julie. He also has a younger daughter, Roxane, with Karine Silla. He later had an affair with actress Carole Bouquet from 1997 to 2005. Depardieu is the favourite actor and a personal friend of former Cuba president Fidel Castro. Among Depardieu's notable works is a series of comedy films in which he starred opposite comic actor Pierre Richard - La Chèvre (1981), Les Compères (1983), Les Fugitifs (1986).
