The German Shepherd Dog (GSD), (German: Deutscher Schäferhund) is a large breed of dog which originates from Germany, originally bred for herding sheep. Shepherds are skilled working dog due to their intelligence, strength and obedience, and are commonly used as Police dog and military attack dogs. Despite their potential ferocity, due to their loyal and protective nature the breed make good housepets and guard dogs.
