Hector Hammond

Hector Hammond is a fictional character, a DC Universe supervillain who is primarily an enemy of Green Lantern. The character was created by John Broome and Gil Kane, and originally appeared as in Green Lantern (vol. 2) # 5 (March-April 1961). Unlike many supervillains, Hammond does not use an alias. Hammond is a fugitive on the run from the law when he discovers the fragments of a strange meteor in the woods (part of this meteor lands in Africa, where it evolves the gorilla inhabiting the area. One of these gorillas later becomes the supervillain Gorilla Grodd.). Observing that radiation from the meteor has caused the nearby plants to evolve rapidly, Hammond decides to kidnap four scientist and expose them to the meteor. The radiation causes their intellects to evolve, but also has the side effect of sapping their wills.
