Imperial College London (officially The Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine as given in its Royal Charter) is a British university in London. It is one of only three universities to have reached second place in any of the major British newspaper league rankings when Imperial College beat Oxford University in The Times 1999 and 2000 tables to finish second. Teaching and research focus on science, engineering, and medicine, although more recently faculties in these areas have been complemented by the Tanaka Business School and a humanities department. In the 2007 THES - QS World University Rankings of universities world-wide, Imperial was placed 5th overall in the world.. In 2006, it was ranked fourth in the world by THES-QS for biomedicine, engineering and computer science.
