The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) is funded by the Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas). The 105-member symphony orchestra is made up of musicians from 22 countries. On 17th August 1998, MPO performed its inaugural performance under the direction of Music Director Kees Bakels at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
