Nitzer Ebb (pronounced night-zer or nit-zer—the band pronounces it both ways) is a British music group formed in 1982 by Essex schoolfriends Douglas McCarthy (vocals, synthesizer), Vaughan (Bon) Harris (synthesizers, drums), and David Gooday.
Nitzer Ebb began when Douglas McCarthy met Bon Harris. They shared an interest in witchcraft, talking to trees, and collecting rune stones in Chelmsford and Little Baddow, England, UK. They found inspiration in the punk ethos of bands such as DAF, Killing Joke, and Bauhaus. In August 1983, the group recorded its first demo tape, Basic Pain Procedure. This rare demo tape included eight songs.
