The Girlfriend Factor

"The Girlfriend Factor" was the ninth episode of the HBO series Tanner '88 to air. It originally aired on July 11, 1988. In this episode, Jack meets with a new state-of-the-art robot to show that he is in tune with technology but the robot outsmarts him and mocks him. Jack's relationship with Joanna is still a front page story with the press. Joanna has left the Dukakis campaign. Jack discusses their relationship with his staff and with Alex. He tells Alex that he would like to marry Joanna, and she seems joyful. Later on, Jack and his staff travel to Detroit, Michigan so that Jack can visit the projects. It is made clear that David Seidelman has fallen out with the campaign staff ever since he covered the story on Jack and Joanna's relationship in "The Great Escape". Jack speaks with some residents of the projects and they make him question his stance on the legalization of drugs.
