Taiwanese Minnan (臺灣閩南語), commonly known as Taiwanese (臺灣話; 臺語), is a variant of the Hokkien dialect of the Min Nan Chinese language spoken by about 70% of the population of Taiwan. The largest ethnic group in Taiwan for which Taiwanese is considered a native language is known as Hoklo or Holo (Hō-ló). The correspondence between language and ethnicity is generally true though not absolute, as some Hoklo speak Taiwanese poorly while some non-Hoklo speak Taiwanese fluently.
