Montevallo is a city in Shelby County, Alabama, United States. A college town, it is the home of the University of Montevallo, a public liberal arts university with around 3000 students. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city of Montevallo is 4,825. Montevallo is located at (33.104927, -86.862817). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.6 square mile (19.7 km²), of which, 7.6 square miles (19.6 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.66%) is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 4,825 people, 1,711 households, and 946 families residing in the city. The population density was 638.5 people per square mile (246.4/km²). There were 1,897 housing units at an average density of 251.0/sq mi (96.9/km²).
