Monroe is a city in Walton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 11,409 at the 2000 census. The city is the county seat of Walton County. Monroe is located at (33.793295, -83.710790). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.5 square mile (27.1 km²), of which, 10.4 square miles (26.8 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.3 km²) of it (1.05%) is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 11,407 people, 4,287 households, and 2,983 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,101.3 people per square mile (425.1/km²). There were 4,637 housing units at an average density of 447.7/sq mi (172.8/km²).
