The Fast and the Furious (known as Wild Speed in Japan) is a 2001 car film starring Paul Walker and Vin Diesel, and directed by Rob Cohen. The Fast and the Furious was the first mainstream film to feature the Asian automotive import scene in North America. It is the first film in ''The Fast and the Furious'' film series. The film begins as we see an elaborate truck hijacking involving three souped up Honda Civics and a semi carrying electronic equipment. One of the Honda's races in front of the truck, pops off its sunroof and launches a grappling hook of some kind into the truck's windshield. The windshield is pulled off and another hook is fired inside the cab where the hijackers climb inside and overtake the truck driver (all this while still going 70 mph down the road). We then cut to the empty parking lot of Dodger Stadium where Brian O'Conner is testing out his high performance car.
