"You talkin' to me?" is a popular quote said by Travis Bickle, a character played by Robert De Niro in the 1976 movie Taxi Driver. The quote and the scene it was featured in have become a pop culture icon, and made De Niro a star. The phrase is number ten on AFI's 100 Years... 100 Movie Quotes list. In the scene, Bickle is looking into a mirror at himself, imagining a confrontation which would give him a chance to draw his gun. He says the following line: Many people mistakenly believe that the scene was completely ad-lib by De Niro. The script originally only had the following words in parenthesis: "(Travis looks into the mirror)." However, De Niro did not create either the famous quoted words "You talkin' to me?" or the idea of using them while talking to himself in the mirror but took them directly from Episode 039 of The Twilight Zone titled "Nervous Man in a Four Dollar Room" originally broadcast on October 14, 1960, over 15 years before "Taxi Driver."
