Destructoid is an independent video game blog based in Miami, Florida, that was founded in March 2006 as a scheme to earn its creator, Yanier Gonzalez, invitation to the press-only E3 2006 conference. It has since grown into one of the most widely read video game blogs on the internet, reaching over 2 million unique visitors per month. Kotaku (managed by Gawker Media) and Joystiq (managed by AOL), two other popular video game blogs, comprise Destructoid’s main competition. Destructoid is distinguished by its significant community presence; many of the site’s registered members are as well known among the community as the editors themselves.
