Presently an independent consultant and author, John has published articles in a broad range of business publications, including the Harvard Business Review, the Wall Street Journal, and Business 2.0, and written several books, including "Net Gain" and "Net Worth." His most recent book, "Out of the Box," published by the Harvard Business School Press, provides distinctive insights and strategies for CEOs and senior executives seeking to harness the business value of Web Services and other next generation software technologies. Prior to writing, John was a Principal with McKinsey & Company and a Global Leader of McKinsey's Electronic Commerce Practice and Strategy Practice. At McKinsey, John spent 16 years working for a broad range of clients across many industries on e-commerce issues, with a particular focus on strategic management and operational performance improvement. His distinctive expertise involves perspectives on the emergence and evolution of new business models enabled by the Internet, restructuring opportunities created by e-commerce and new approaches to strategy under high uncertainty. Prior to joining McKinsey, John served as Senior Vice President for Strategic Planning at Atari and as Founder and President of Sequoia Group, a systems house selling turnkey computer systems to physicians. John also worked as a consultant with Boston Consulting Group. In 1999, Business Week named John one of the e.biz 25 most influential people in electronic business and he was designated one of Upside's Elite 100 Most Influential People in the Digital World. John received his MBA from Harvard Business School and a JD from Harvard Law School. He also has a graduate degree (BPhil) from Oxford University, as well as a BA from Wesleyan University.
