Carmen Chu (, born 1978 in Los Angeles, California) is a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors representing District 4. In 2000, she earned a bachelor's degree in public policy from Occidental College, and in 2003, earned a master's degree in public policy from UC Berkeley. While in school, she worked in the Board of Supervisors' Office of the Legislative Analyst. In 2004, she worked as a budget analyst in the Mayor's Budget Office. More recently, she served as the deputy director in the Mayor's Budget Office and has overseen Healthy San Francisco, Mayor Gavin Newsom's health care program. On September 25, 2007, she was appointed to replace the embattled San Francisco Supervisor Ed Jew, who was then suspended.
On January 11, 2008, her interim appointment expired upon Jew's resignation. The District 4 seat remained vacant for five and a half hours until Mayor Newsom appointed her to succeed Jew. She will remain the permanent replacement until November.
